If you were to pass by the Yellow Caterpillar
classroom these days, you would hear the children humming “L’automne est arrivé!”
(Fall is here). As the season has arrived, we are learning fall and Halloween vocabulary
in Language and Art, and soon we will be talking about Remembrance Day. We had
fun visiting Miller’s Farm and picking out pumpkins. In class we cut up the
gourds and pumpkins and the children had a tactile experience learning what the
insides are made from! We also had fun picking fall leaves and replicating them
with pastels in Art class. Along with that, we are learning elements of design:
colour, line and texture.
In Math we continue to do sorting and
classification, as well number sense, counting from one to twenty, forwards and
backwards, and skip counting by two for their better understanding.
The
children are very excited to build a bakery in the Dramatic Arts area- they
also look very cute in their chef’s hats. When we were brainstorming ideas
about what we would need in the bakery, the kids surprised me with their vast
knowledge of all things cooking and left me with the impression that they must
be helping out in their kitchens at home!
For Halloween the classroom was decorated
with pumpkins, owls and monsters. In Gym, the children had fun trying to balance
mini gourds on their heads.
And throwing and catching ‘ghost balloons’
in the air with their scoops.
We had so much fun during the Halloween
dance-o-thon, wearing our costumes and dancing up a storm! And we ended the day
with a costume parade.
We will continue to learn more things about
the seasonal changes as winter is soon approaching. With that in mind, I would
like to remind parents to dress the children warmly according to the colder
weather.
Till we meet again!
Mrs. Singh
